The majority of establishments are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. This applies to shops, banks, museums and restaurants.

For the rest of the year in the main touristic areas only a few restaurants are closed on Sundays and public holidays. Museums have their busiest days on public holidays – with the above exceptions.

In addition the local festivities are considered official holidays in the specific municipalities of the island.
